We were footloose and fancy free for the weekend; Keith had no work lined up and I had five days off due to Passover/Easter.
The original plan was a trip down to the Blue Ridge Parkway, but the forecast showed that the weather was not going to cooperate so we went with Plan B.
On Wednesday night, Keith said “Let’s take the long way. I love it when he says that; I never know where we’ll end up but it’s almost always good. And even when it’s not good, it’s still a good story.
Last weekend’s long way included a drive through the Adirondacks and around the lower part of Lake Champlain:
It’s hard to describe that drive on Thursday, around the mountains and lakes. We talked, finished one audio book and started another, and when we got bored we listened to some Monty Python. And all the while, watched the country shake off winter.

After a night spent at a $40/night motel in Shelburne, Vermont, that was far better than any $40/night motel ought to be, we backtracked and spent part of the morning walking around the 225 year old (ish) ruins of Crown Point. We were the only ones there, in that early sunshine, and the stillness added to the haunted feel of the place.

We wound our way back north and across the border, and hit Ottawa in time for dinner. Our hotel proved to be as utilitarian as the reviews said it was, but the location was perfect; only a block away from the Byward Market area with it’s restaurants and brew pubs.
MMmmmm…brew pubs. ‘Nuff said.
We walked around for a few days, seeing the sights and taking pictures like we’re tourists. (Oh, wait. We were.) The funniest moment though, had to be when the guy who commented a few days ago about feigning “surprise when we run into each other in the museum”, was actually surprised when we ran into him and his girlfriend at the museum.
Truly. You can’t make this shit up.

Hahahaha! It was way too funny to run into you there. I really didn’t expect that to happen… but I’m glad it did.
