This week has been awful, in ways both small and great. Pipe leak equaled no hot water one day, to fix it they had to turn off all power another day. I hurt my back so badly I could not go to work and spent two days laying on the floor and watching Firefly and Monty Python. I have just finished a two hour dental appointment. I also said goodbye to another former student who didn’t want to wait to see if the future would get better.
I don’t want to think about what fresh hell tomorrow could bring. Instead, I am turning my gaze further along the calendar to Las Vegas and the Winter Gathering.
I am booked, and I am pretty happy about how cheaply it’s all come together - air fare and 4 nights at the Imperial Palace is setting me back a whopping $160 US. This means I have more spendolies for drunken gambling and for getting drunker.
Win/win.
I know there are the usual loose plans made for the weekend; Thursday night @ the Geisha, Friday night @ MGM, Saturday’s tournament and Sunday’s recovery spent watching football at the IP Sports Book. There are some other things in the works, like Friday’s golf game and Steel Panther.
Not being even remotely interested in golf or football (I could pretend, but where’s the fun in that?), I’ve been thinking about what else I could do.
I’ve booked a space in tour on Friday at the Neon Museum. I’ve always wanted to see the graveyard and take some photos of the old relics of early Vegas. If you want to join me, fill out the form here. I’m taking the 2pm tour … I think I should be somewhat mobile by then.
And I’m playing with the idea of renting a car on Sunday if the weather is fair, and driving around. I’m thinking maybe to Lake Mead and up to Valley of Fire. I don’t mind going alone, but I’d also be glad of the company if anyone else wants come along. Let me know.
Five weeks to go!

I won’t be going, but wanted to comment that I visited the Valley of Fire a year ago, and liked it a lot better than Red Rock. We went to Lake Mead, then drove along it back north (and slightly east, I think) and did both in one trip.

Last month I toured Lake Mead and Hoover dam by helicopter. Two wheels might even be better. Especially given the company.

Doc, I checked on HD rental; it’s $99 for 5 hours, 140 for the day plus about 20-ish for insurance. Checking to see about the gear…hope they provide coz I can’t see me trying to get the leathers and helmet as carry-on *grin.

You could just wear it down - the leathers would be hot.
Just make sure if you two do this that you bring my honey back in one piece - I’ll be wearing my humiliation publicly that day.

Mary and I signed up for the Neon Graveyard tour, too. She wanted to see that when she was there with the Girl Scouts last year but could not work it in.
