Good gravy, I am tired. Yet invigorated at the same time. I was going to take a pass on this writing class since things are a bit tight financially but I am glad I didn’t. I get to hang out with some interesting people and meet the interesting characters they are making up. It’s making [...]

is it? could it be? an actual post?

~ I haven’t posted much lately.
~ How come?
~ I just don’t feel that I have anything interesting to say.
~ Like that’s stopping anyone else.
~ Good point.

So here I am, laying in bed trying to get comfortable. My back didn’t like something about how I turned the shower on this morning, and took that moment to tell me [...]

writing assignment - magic

When I was a kid, I thought magic was all around me. The signs were all there, even though I did not know how to interpret them. The shape of the summer clouds, the cries of the crows in autumn, the drift of the snow, the way the tulips unfurled, these all held great portents.
I [...]

NaNoWrapUp

November is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).
November is also NaKniSweMo (National Sweater Knitting Month) and NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month).
But I’ll bet you didn’t know it was also KaHaAsMo (Kat’s Half-Assed Month, no link available).
Yep, once again I had grand intentions for November, and once again things did not pan out quite as I wanted.
I knew that [...]

because I like it

Instructions
By Neil Gaiman.
Touch the wooden gate in the wall you never saw before
Say “please” before you open the latch,
go through,
walk down the path.
A red metal imp hangs from the
green-painted front door,
as a knocker,
do not touch it; it will bite your fingers.
Walk through the house. Take nothing. Eat nothing.
However,
if any creature tells you that it hungers,
feed [...]

“you must get so bored on the nights that Keith is working”

Bubble bath in the scent I love, but that Keith is not fond of.
Massive Attack on the cd player.
A new novel.
The blank creamy page of an expensive Italian journal bought on a whim, and a heavy pen with dark green ink that flows smoothly across the paper.
A magazine I’ve never read before.
The vibration of a [...]

poetry

WARNING: there are two poems ahead. Poems written by an amateur who is almost as angst-ridden as a pimply emo teen (but for vastly different reasons). What follows could be utter crap; I’m too close to it to tell. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Fireside, BC

When you look at a map of the Alaska Highway, you see dots along the road, little black dots that on a map of any other place would indicate that it’s a small village or town.
Here they are different. The black dots are roadside stops, usually a family run enterprise that has gas pumps, a [...]

well that was awesome

No really. That was one awesome weekend.
Not only did I get out of the city on a lovely September weekend, but I got to see some people that I was lucky enough to meet at the last writing weekend and to meet a few new fascinating people. The farmhouse that we stayed in was a [...]

brain fart

I feel like I’ve dropped about 50 IQ points in the last few months. Brain farts are a regular occurrence. I’m forgetting names, words, appointments, you name it. You can’t imagine the fun of trying to teach the kids something only to gap on a term or forget the next step.
I’m glad I work with [...]
